Stress and Relaxation in School for Staff and Pupils

A practical training session aiming to promote good mental and physical health for staff and pupils in Primary Schools.

Stress is becoming a major issue in schools and is at last receiving more emphasis. Staff are under increasing amounts of pressure, which invariably become too much and result in stress. The major difference for teachers as professionals, is that, if the teacher is under stress, this has a direct and negative affect on the pupils they work with.

We consider that it is time that teaching staff had the opportunity to learn about stress and its causes. It is also important to consider how children and young people are also under pressure, and suffering from the effects of stress.

This training session offers a careful balance between personal reflection and the development of strategies to use both personally and in the classroom for the benefit of all. Although personally challenging, delegates are not asked to talk about their personal situation, but time is given to self checking and personal planning for change.

Throughout the session, delegates learn how to do a whole mixture of relaxation techniques from “one minute quick fixes” to a full half hour session on progressive muscle relaxation and imagery.

This is a great opportunity to encourage positive change for staff both personally and in their working practice. A good work/ life balance benefits everyone!

The training session aims to help staff examine how stress is affecting them and their pupils. It also offers methods to control and reduce the effects of stress and tension.
